KUALA LUMPUR: The government plans to enact the Racial and Religious Hatred Act to enable action to be taken against any party that insults Islam or other religions, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

“Religion should be protected as any religion is prohibited from being verbally attacked and abused,” he said during the question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat sitting here.

He was replying to a supplementary question from Datuk Sri Ismail Mohamed Said (BN-Kuala Krau) on the government’s preparation to take decisive action against any party who insulted Islam, including drafting a new bill.

Mujahid said up till now, his ministry had yet to receive any reports from the police on the issue of insulting Islam on social media such as Facebook.

“We have yet to receive any official reports from the police for us to study in terms of what can be controlled so that Islam as the religion of the federation is respected by all parties as well as for other religions,” he said.- Bernama
